This book contains several concurrent stories. The setting is the early days of the WW II advance of Imperial Japanese Forces towards Australia. At New Guinea the Aussies, before eventually receiving US support, desperately tried to keep a foothold. The only plane which had the range and bombing capacity to fly from Australia to New […]

Andreas Rupprecht writes cool books! And who says Rupprecht, says China! This is the umpteenth book of him, published by Harpia Publishing. I am really very happy with this publisher and what they have published till now. On their site it states at the category ‘Strategic handbooks’, only 1 book, but, as far as I am concerned, all the books – also this one – can be stated in this category, when it concerns nowadays airforces or other flying army units. As the quality and information value can be rated as ‘good’!

When you are talking about the best series of aviation books, then this one is absolutely in my top 3! Why? Just because I can..and must be! This book is 472 pages and contains, just as the other 3 books that were
published in the past years in this series, really beautiful pictures.

(Nederlands) Yes! Here is another book of one of the most beautiful series that I collect! This time ‘Cuban Migs’ -and for the people that do not know the books of Harpia Publishing-; a great book that is part of a large series of books that, in the meantime, is published by them.

Jerry Koszyk is an amateur aviation researcher who by chance discovered that way back in 1917 the then fledgling Army Air Service had set up an airfield for aeronatical research and development.at Dayton, Ohio, called McCook Field, where commercial, civilian, aerobatic and military aviation merged. He also discovered that no book or other publication about […]

Dirk Jan de Ridder is addicted to aviation photography and that delivered him beautiful pictures. Since he was 7, when he visited an aviation show at Gilze Rijen for the first time, he is ‘sold’ to aviation and more specific and foremost, military aviation. Throughout the years he makes trips to 23 different countries all over the world, which supplied him with pictures of planes and helicopters from 71 countries! Dirk Jan now decided to unite the most beautiful
    ones in a book.

Reading this book I am not really sure whether this review should belong in AviationBookReviews because the title does not cover the load entirely. Duke Thomas, the main character in this book, is an  “ace” during the First World War and servicing the USAAF with a big passion namely the archaeology of the Middle East […]
