Terrorism is a word that we read regularly in the newspaper these days, but air terrorism was there since aviation started. Since 1968, when an El Al flight was taken over by terrorists, hijacking was a regular returning occurrence and the most spectacular ones are described in detail in this book.

It is really one of the most fascinating and interesting books I have read about airships that explains and proves documented why airships and in particular Britain’s R101 were dangerous and doomed as a global air transport system. The backgrounds of the persons involved in the realisation of R 101 and their motives take an important of the book. Samuel Gwynne is certainly a very good story teller!

From the stories of WW2 during the Battle of Britain the name of Douglas Bader is very well known as the ace without legs. He lost his legs in a prewar flight accident and with a lot of perseverance he became a famous fighter pilot. But there is another fighter pilot who flew without legs […]

Many books have been written about the second WW and especially bomber command. In this particular book we follow the training and posting at an active squadron of Bomber Command during the war of air gunner/wireless operator John Brennan. At first he was posted as crew member on a Wellington twin engine bomber in the Middle […]

Nearly all the books I read about aviation are nonfiction. They are about history (mostly second world war), autobiographies or personal flying stories. This (e-)book is a fiction story about the crash of an airliner and the events that lead to that crash. Whether the author is a pilot himself I don’t know but the technical aspects […]

This e-book that I bought for $ 0,99 ( a bargain) contains 168 pages with facts about commercial aviation. It shows only one drawing explaining how gravity and lift makes a plane fly. On each page there is a short story or an event experienced by a crew member and there are also simple technical […]

Nice book this is! It immediately draws the attention through her handy size with a Spitfire, in colour, on the front page. The book is a picture report of the RAF Westhampnett from the time of the Battle of Britain (from the 10th of July 1940 and which endured about 3,5 months) and later with […]

This E-book is the follow-up to a previously published work by Sylvia Wrigley detailing both well-known and relatively unknown plane crashes during 2001. This book describes 11 accidents that occurred in 2002. Among these, the most tragic example of how badly things can go wrong, is the story of a collision between a Tupolev 154M […]

A hearty meal and a cup of coffee prior to take-off and a few hours later you find yourself stranded in enemy territory. For some an experience as shocking as this brings to light extraordinary inventiveness and perseverance in finding their way back home, as demonstrated in this book’s “travelogues”. Although the title of this […]

This book describes the flying adventures of Matt McLauchlin in Papoea New Guinea (PNG) in a very realistic way. It starts with his short career in the New-Zealand Air Force, where he was washed out during his pilot training. On his search for a job in the commercial aviation he ends up in Papoea New […]
