This E-book is the follow-up to a previously published work by Sylvia Wrigley detailing both well-known and relatively unknown plane crashes during 2001. This book describes 11 accidents that occurred in 2002. Among these, the most tragic example of how badly things can go wrong, is the story of a collision between a Tupolev 154M carrying 60 passengers (most of whom were children) and nine crew members, and a DHL Boeing 757 flown by two crew members. But actually each story detailed in this book has a tragic background with fatal consequences.
Sylvia Wrigley’s accounts are professional and devoid of personal bias in her conclusions, whilst being sufficiently informative so as to allow the reader to draw his or her own conclusions. Like her previous book, this book too contains situational illustrations and photographs, although noticeably fewer than the first edition. It is also possible to view official reports by the crash investigation committees as well as supportive photographic and informative reference such as Wikipedia through hyperlinks (the great advantage of E-books).
A few of the stories – such as the crash of a Saab 2000 – are highly educational. These are accidents that could happen to anyone of us, when we take poor decisions often under pressure of unexpected, adverse weather conditions. As such, I can recommend this book to all pilots in lieu of the accidents related to the changeable weather conditions over Europe, as oftentimes these are the result of insufficient preparation prior to flying into bad weather.
Sylvia Wrigley has published a good mix of well-known and lesser known crashes with a rich diversity of causes. All-in-all another fascinating book that leaves us wanting more.
