As the author said in his preview “strap yourself in the jump seat” and let Scot Gibson (the main person in this book ) fly you around the world.  And that is what this book is all about. You fly with Scot during his active career as a pilot in so many different planes and different disciplines that it also a book for non aviators who are interested in the aviation world.

John Llewelyn Rhys gained his pilot’s licence in 1934 and joined the RAF as a Reservist in the following year. He already had some writing experience and demonstrated his talent for it. He kept on flying until his untimely death in 1940 aged 29. So not much writing of this short lived pilot survived. England […]

The best review that described this book is probably the introduction by Daniel Kilburn and Luke Seaber published in the first paragraph. They dig deep into the character of Robert Owen whose life as a pilot instructor is described in this novel. They explain to the reader what symbolisms and metaphors Rhys uses to show […]

Reading this book I am not really sure whether this review should belong in AviationBookReviews because the title does not cover the load entirely. Duke Thomas, the main character in this book, is an  “ace” during the First World War and servicing the USAAF with a big passion namely the archaeology of the Middle East […]

283rd Review Mayday Mayday Mayday-A Pilot’s memoirs- Brian Clapp Brian Clapp has noted 23.000 flying hours in his journals. 3000 of those hours are RAF flights and, in that time, he flew 8 years in – oh yes- Shackleton’s. After that he transferred to the Nimrod, followed up by a civil career at various airline […]

The title MAYDAY provides a clue to the plot of this aeronautical story of Dan Stratman, himself an airplane captain. It is a story about the maiden flight of a brand new airliner, with all the ingredients to excite flyboys and girls.
