Review MAYDAY: A Frighteningly Realistic Aviation Thriller (Capt. Mark Smith Series Book 1)- Dan Stratman

Maiden flight of a brand new airliner!

The title MAYDAY provides a clue to the plot of this aeronautical story of Dan Stratman, himself an airplane captain. It is a story about the maiden flight of a brand new airliner, with all the ingredients to excite flyboys and girls. Near science fiction avionics, a captain with a drinking problem past, sex bomb cabin attendants and all the bad boys have Arabian names! This virulent cocktail is put into a thriller about sabotaging the avionics of a state of the art airliner. Dan obviously has an aviation background and made serious work of researching the FBI code of conduct.

    Sabotage

For me the attraction of this book lies in the unravelling of a seemingly lost case after the sabotage is discovered by the crew. There Dan’s matured aviation background shows its hand! Without giving away the plot it is a classic good guys against bad guys story, within the classic sense a predictable outcome, but only at the very last page. It is an easy and entertaining story, especially for readers with some aviation background. The story is not so unsettling that it will disturb your dreams after reading before “lights out”. Mr. Stratman, after encountering captain Mark and his ex-wife Noelle in this book I will certainly read the next two stories about this couple, Hurricane and Betrayal.
