‘This book is dedicated to American military veterans, past, present and future’; the first sentence is: ‘Getting shot down sucks.’ With that the tone of this Vietnam book has been set. Special Ops and Green Berets all over the place. And owh dear you if you say something nasty (Japanese journalist) about it!
Interesting fact though is that the story reports extensively about the deployment of the Cessna 02 Skymaster (push – pull prop), moreover since at present such a model flies around in The Netherlands.
For amateurs the book contains a lot of operational details about SAR – missions to fetch people from the hostile jungle. The story itself seems to me as the Vietnam version of cowboy and Indian romance. Carefully a bit of sex has been mixed in with it, American correct!
If you are interesting in this kind of war stories, than this book is best to be recommended as holiday literature.
